Oncology General Practitioner - Leukemia and BMT

BC Cancer, Vancouver Cancer Centre

Regular Full-Time (1.0FTE)

Vancouver, BC

The General Practitioner will assist senior hematologists in managing patients with leukemia and those undergoing bone marrow transplants by providing ongoing patient care. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with leukemia/bone marrow transplant fellows and clinical associates, as well as internists involved in the program. Previous experience in this specialty is advantageous but not a strict requirement.

The Leukemia/BMT Program is a pioneering academic initiative focused on the comprehensive treatment of aggressive hematological cancers and stem cell transplants, including immune effector cell therapies, based at Vancouver General Hospital. This program serves the province of British Columbia and Yukon, performing approximately 300 transplants annually. It is the sole provincial referral center for adult patients with acute leukemia and operates as a partnership between BC Cancer and Vancouver Coastal Health.

Applicants must qualify for licensure as a family practitioner in British Columbia, possess Canadian certification (FRCP, FRCS, or CCFP) at the time of appointment, and be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • A commitment to fostering lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, in alignment with the TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • An understanding of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, along with familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

About BC Cancer

BC Cancer is dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer control for the residents of British Columbia.

As part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), BC Cancer plans, manages, and evaluates specialized health services in collaboration with BC health authorities to ensure equitable and cost-effective healthcare for individuals across the province. Our values reflect our commitment to excellence and include: Respect people – Be compassionate – Dare to innovate – Cultivate partnerships – Serve with purpose.

BC Cancer is committed to reducing cancer incidence, mortality, and improving the quality of life for those affected by cancer. It offers a comprehensive cancer control program in partnership with regional health authorities, providing a range of services including prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation, and palliative care. The organization operates six regional cancer centers and two research centers focused on cancer research.

PHSA and BC Cancer are dedicated to employment equity and diversity, hiring based on merit. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, including members of visible minority groups, women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and individuals of any sexual orientation or gender identity. Citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be prioritized. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences, and we value a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Reconciliation is an ongoing process and a shared responsibility for all. The BC Government's unanimous passage of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act represents a significant step forward in this journey—one that all health authorities are expected to support as we collaborate with Indigenous Peoples to establish a clear and sustainable path to lasting reconciliation. True reconciliation requires time and ongoing commitment to work with Indigenous Peoples toward self-determination. Crown agencies must remain focused on creating opportunities that implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Mandate.
