The Staff Pharmacist plays a vital role in providing direct Pharmacy services to assigned sites within Prairie Mountain Health. Reporting to the Director/Manager/Supervisor of Pharmacy, this position is responsible for assisting in the provision of pharmacy services, participating in the planning and implementation of pharmacy services, and functioning as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities- Drug Distribution: The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the distribution of medications, including non-sterile and sterile compounding, within various drug distribution models.
- Medication Order Review: The pharmacist reviews medication orders to verify authenticity, completeness, and appropriateness, ensuring compliance with dosage, route, frequency, incompatibilities, interactions, duplications, allergies, formulary compliance, automatic therapeutic substitution, and automatic stop.
- Professional Practice: The Staff Pharmacist provides drug information for patients and healthcare professionals, conducts educational programs, performs drug utilization reviews, and evaluates literature.
- Clinical Pharmacy Services: The pharmacist monitors the clinical status and drug therapies of patients, identifies medication-related problems, and provides clinical drug interventions. They also counsel patients on medication usage and participate in unit conferences and family conferences as required.
- Education and Supervision: The Staff Pharmacist supervises and provides direction to pharmacy assistants, students, and interns, verifying the accuracy of tasks performed by them.
- Controlled Drugs and Substances: The pharmacist oversees the distribution and management of controlled drugs and substances.
- Study Protocols: The Staff Pharmacist participates in study protocols as required.
- Policies and Procedures: The pharmacist collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy/Manager of Pharmacy in formulating, implementing, and revising policies, procedures, manuals, and documents relating to the operation of Pharmacy Services.
- Special Projects: The Staff Pharmacist performs special projects concerning pharmacy operations and regional initiatives in collaboration with the Director/Manager of Pharmacy Services.
- Expanded Scope of Practice: The pharmacist participates in expanded scope of practice activities as required and supported by PMH policy.
