Job Summary

Vancouver Island College is seeking a highly qualified Academic Subject Matter Expert to join our team. As an Academic Subject Matter Expert, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in a variety of academic subjects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Prepare and deliver high-quality teaching materials and outlines for courses, ensuring that they meet the needs of students and align with the college's academic standards.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Prepare, administer, and mark tests and papers to evaluate students' progress, providing constructive feedback to help them improve.
  • Student Advising: Advise students on program curricula and career decisions, helping them to make informed choices about their academic and professional paths.
  • Course Delivery: Deliver lectures and presentations, demonstrating and supervising laboratory experiments, leading discussion groups and seminars, and teaching workshops to trades students.
  • Subject Area Expertise: Demonstrate expertise in a specific subject area, such as biology, and contribute to the development of curriculum and instructional materials.
Requirements
  • Education: A college or CEGEP education is required, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent oral communication skills, patience, and a willingness to relocate are essential for this role.
  • Work Environment: This is a permanent position, working 40 hours per week, with a focus on delivering high-quality education and support to students.
