About the RoleThe Therapeutic Recreation Manager (TRM) reports to the General Manager and is responsible for overseeing the Recreation Department. The TRM leads a team of Recreation staff and volunteers to assess residents' needs and interests, developing and implementing Recreation services that cater to their emotional, cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual well-being.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and motivate the Recreation team to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Model organizational values and behaviors, inspiring others to do the same.
- Recruit, orient, and manage Recreation staff, as well as oversee the Volunteer Program.
- Participate in grievance handling and communicate policies and procedures to staff.
- Conduct probationary and performance evaluations, identifying education needs for employees.
- Manage work schedules, coordinate assignments, and maintain direct care hours.
- Coordinate student placement programs and complete necessary documentation.
- Attend leadership team meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
- Participate in budget planning and implementation.
- Act as community liaison for the Resident Council and coordinate support as needed.
- Liaise with community agencies and groups to enhance programs and promote the community.
- Oversee and update departmental standards, procedures, and records.
- Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff.
- Develop and distribute Recreation program calendars and newsletters.
- Submit departmental reports and maintain the community bus safety program.
- Attend in-service and education sessions to upgrade professional skills.
- Complete resident assessments and maintain care plans.
- Facilitate programs and interventions for residents.
- Provide mentorship and education to staff on clinical best practices.
- Report and document observations in the Interdisciplinary Resident Progress Record.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement Committees and initiatives.
- Graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Program, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Certification from the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) as required.
- A minimum of two years' management experience in a seniors housing setting preferred.
- Current Basic CPR/First Aid qualifications.
- Current class 4 BC Driver's License as required.
- Current Food Safe Certification required.
- Current Serving It Right Certification required.
- Ability to understand the needs of seniors.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Solid working knowledge of related office equipment and Windows-based software.
- Previous financial management experience.
