Are you skilled in providing administrative and legal assistance in a fast-paced environment? The Government of Alberta is seeking a dedicated individual to support the Court of King's Bench in delivering justice to the community. As a Court Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in assisting judges in Calgary with their critical functions.
In this position, you will be tasked with offering comprehensive administrative and legal assistance to multiple Justices of the Court of King's Bench, which includes but is not limited to:
- organizing calendars and arranging appointments
- documenting and managing budgetary and expense claims
- typing, formatting, editing, and proofreading legal documents, ensuring the accuracy of citations before submission
- conducting research and drafting correspondence and memoranda of a highly sensitive nature
- preparing materials for court sessions
- managing confidential information with discretion
- establishing and maintaining both physical and digital filing systems, including the organization of records
- responding to incoming inquiries via phone and mail
- coordinating complex travel arrangements
- organizing meetings and conferences, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared
- scheduling judicial assignments
- providing backup support for fellow Court Support Specialists
- performing additional administrative tasks as required
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines. It is essential that candidates have experience working exclusively for at least three executives, attorneys, or judges.
You will interact daily with judges, attorneys, court staff, unrepresented litigants, and other stakeholders. Your exceptional interpersonal skills will be crucial in facilitating communication with these key parties throughout court proceedings.
Successful candidates must conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity, reflecting the equitable administration of justice in Alberta.
To excel in this role, you must demonstrate excellent attendance, a high degree of professionalism, adaptability, and meticulous attention to detail. Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently are also essential. A thorough understanding of the court system, procedures, and relevant legislation will enable you to address complex issues effectively as they arise.

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Legal Assistant, Legal Administration, or Paralegal) along with a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience is required.
Equivalencies will be assessed based on one year of education for one year of related experience or vice versa.
Preference will be given to candidates with over 10 years of relevant experience as a Legal Assistant, Judicial Assistant, or Executive Assistant.
Additional Assets:
- Previous experience as a Judicial Assistant supporting multiple Justices or Judges.
- Previous experience as an Executive Assistant supporting multiple Executives.
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant supporting multiple Attorneys.
- A diploma in Legal Assistance.
- Experience in a court environment, particularly with the Court of King's Bench.
- Familiarity with M365 applications.
- Proficiency in legal terminology.
Candidates may be required to undergo additional assessments.
Selected candidates will need to complete typing and grammar evaluations prior to an interview. A typing speed of at least 60 WPM is required, with a preference for 80 WPM.

Important Notes
This is a permanent full-time position with the Court of King's Bench – Judicial, Calgary, working Monday to Friday. Overtime may be required with little or no notice.
