Position Overview
Legal Aid Ontario is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as a Family Duty Counsel, providing essential legal support in both French and English. This role is integral to ensuring that individuals navigating family law matters receive the guidance and representation they need.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive family law duty counsel services, both in-person and virtually, ensuring clients receive the necessary legal assistance.
- Conduct intake assessments for family law clients to identify appropriate services, including procedural and summary legal advice.
- Draft, review, and commission essential family court documents, including Applications, Answers, Motions, Affidavits, and Financial Statements.
- Represent clients in various stages of family court and child protection proceedings, advocating for their rights and interests.
- Provide guidance at the Family Law Information Center and other legal advice clinics as needed.
- Maintain accurate client files and conflict lists, ensuring high-quality legal work is delivered efficiently.
- Record data and generate reports in accordance with established timelines.
Qualifications
- Active member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in family law, particularly in child protection legislation.
- Proficient in legal software applications, including Word, Excel, and legal case management systems.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving abilities, and a client-focused approach.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and French, with a demonstrated capacity to draft legal documents independently.
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
