Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Alberta Health Services Full time

Your Opportunity:

This role is essential in delivering pediatric speech and language services within a community-focused environment. The position involves working in various settings, including clinics and homes, utilizing both virtual and in-person support methods. The Therapy Assistant collaborates with the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to gather necessary information that aids in the assessment of children. Additionally, the Assistant is tasked with preparing and implementing interventions for designated clients across universal, targeted, and population-specific levels. Services are provided to individuals, families, and a diverse range of community partners. This position operates under the supervision of the Manager, Allied Health Community.

Role Overview:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will engage both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist, or speech-language pathologist. Your contributions will enhance effective rehabilitation services, including both direct and indirect client care throughout the healthcare continuum, which encompasses healthy living, recovery, managing illness and disability, and end-of-life care for all age groups, as well as non-client service provision. This position requires effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism and strong ethical standards in client-centered care and teamwork. You will be expected to exhibit reflective thinking and a commitment to lifelong learning, which will enhance both individual and team competencies. Opportunities will arise for you to apply your interpersonal and clinical skills to improve quality, assist in program planning, and supervise students.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS - HCP) certification is required. The ability to meet all physical demands of the role, including bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, and engaging in active play with children, is essential. Strong organizational abilities and excellent interpersonal/public relations skills are necessary, along with outstanding communication skills. A collaborative team player with sound judgment and decision-making capabilities is expected. A strong patient and family-centered approach to care is crucial, along with a proven ability to meet or exceed service activity targets.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in Pediatric Speech Language Pathology service delivery within a community context is preferred. Experience working with children in small groups or individually is advantageous. Familiarity with Connect Care is considered beneficial, as is experience in virtual service delivery.
