Senior Estimator, Civil Infrastructure Specialist

Job Summary

Michels Canada is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator, Civil Infrastructure to join our preconstruction team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for bidding on civil infrastructure projects related to open cut trenching, large diameter tunneling, micro tunneling, shaft construction, structural form work, and foundations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers, adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Provide support to the Senior Project Manager during the tendering phase of all projects, assembling accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates and new project set-up documents.
  • Utilize technical abilities to analyze drawings and specifications, coordinate the tender process, and maintain good relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, end users, and suppliers.
  • Review bid requirements for projects, prepare and attend site walkthroughs and project site meetings, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrices, and prepare take-offs.
  • Assist in creating preliminary budgets for all successful tender projects and change order pricing.
  • Assist with the overall management of major infrastructure projects from the pre-construction phase until completion.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience estimating heavy civil infrastructure earthworks and underground utility projects with various project delivery methodologies.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience leading estimates for heavy civil infrastructure earthworks and underground utility projects with various project delivery methodologies.
  • Experience and highly skilled in negotiating pricing while maintaining strong integrity and relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, Bluebeam, MS Project, and Heavy Bid (HCSS).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for the type(s) of vehicles that may be driven and an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
