Position Overview
This role at VON Canada involves providing essential support to clients in their homes, particularly those with complex medical needs. As a Personal Support Worker, you will be integral in delivering high-quality care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Employment Details:
- Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time (1.0 FTE)
- Program: eHomecare
- Work Schedule: Nights, Weekends
- Union/Bargaining Unit: CUPE
- On Call: Yes
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to observe and document patient information in their electronic medical records.
- Provide personal care and assist with daily living activities, including medication administration.
- Maintain direct communication with the Registered Nurse through a virtual monitoring system.
- Contribute to the development and adjustment of care plans based on patient feedback and outcomes.
- Identify and coordinate additional resources needed in the home environment.
- Engage with patients and their families to ensure a supportive and positive care experience.
Relationships:
- Regularly interact with Registered Nurses and administrative support staff.
- Build rapport with clients and their family members.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) is required.
- Developmental Support Worker (DSW) certification is an asset.
- Preferred experience of 1-2 years in Palliative or Acute Care settings.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications are mandatory.
- Knowledge of Palliative Care fundamentals is essential.
Skills Required:
- Ability to learn and demonstrate clinical skills necessary for patient care.
- Adaptability to various social and economic environments.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic observation and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Requirements:
- Access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.
- Willingness to travel to surrounding communities.
- Current criminal background check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Working Conditions:
This position demands a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, involving physical activities such as lifting, bending, and walking throughout the day.
