Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive and reactive security patrols to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Provide leadership and direction to security personnel, including coaching and training to ensure they are equipped to handle various security situations.
  • Ensure all standing orders and scheduled daily activities are carried out as required for each shift.
  • Investigate security incidents and complaints, documenting and reporting findings as necessary.
  • Communicate with clients and other stakeholders to ensure effective security operations.
  • Manage events and organization leading up to events, ensuring security measures are in place to protect people and property.
  • Coordinate and oversee extra coverage requirements with Paladin Security's head office.
  • Develop and maintain a training program for security personnel, including site post orders and recertification training.
  • Research and develop additional training and education to meet departmental needs.
  • Implement a standardized evaluation process to assess security personnel performance.
  • Attend security team meetings and ensure officers receive pertinent information.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from front-line staff.
  • Ensure performance matrix standards are met through quality control measures.
  • Coordinate case management of investigations.
  • Develop educational awareness programs to promote security best practices.
  • Maintain security application databases and administer software.
  • Participate in committees as required.
  • Liaise with police and other agencies as necessary.
  • Provide statistical analysis to support security operations.
  • Manage key control and auditing with city employees.
  • Track and follow up on incident reports.
  • Be an accurate and dependable resource with knowledge of services on campus.
  • Comprehend and demonstrate competencies of the City of Markham and Paladin Security's policies and procedures, using a customer service approach.
  • Be attentive to visitor needs and build relationships with the city community.
  • Keep an open and objective mind, remembering the city's diverse community.
  • Encourage a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist visitors and employees during crises and contact emergency services as needed.
  • Frequently inspect the facility for damage and report to management.
  • Ensure the property is safe by ensuring all security measures are functioning properly.
Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of security experience in a municipal government or corporate environment.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A customer service-oriented attitude.
  • A valid Security License for the Province of Ontario.
  • A current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A current NVCI certification.
  • A valid Use of Force certification.
  • Physical demands include excessive walking, standing, exposure to all weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or on bicycle.
  • Utilize two-way radio and computer applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required. Bilingual and multilingual applicants are preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of Perspective reporting software is an asset.
  • Previous knowledge of C-Cure/S2 access control software is an asset.
  • Participate in professional development and on-site leveling system requirements.
  • SafeTalk and ASIST training would be an asset.
  • Be flexible with shift availability, as security operates 24 hours a day.
  • Previous experience or training within a loss prevention/security field is preferred.
  • Complete all required site training within 30 days of on-site hire date.
  • Additional job-related tasks and duties as assigned.
