About the Role

The BC Public Service is seeking a highly skilled Planning Forester to join our team in Prince George. As a key member of our planning team, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining a long-term operating plan that meets the business area goals.

You will establish and foster working relationships with internal and external partners, including government staff, industry, First Nations, and representatives of public resource user groups. Your expertise in operational field forestry activities, including timber harvesting monitoring, cut-block development, and forest road engineering, will be essential in ensuring compliance with forestry legislation in BC.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and innovative individual to contribute to the development of strategic and tactical plans to meet the BCTS mandate. If you have a passion for forestry and a strong background in planning and integrated resource management, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a long-term operating plan compliant with legislative requirements
  • Establish and foster working relationships with internal and external partners
  • Prepare and oversee field assessment contracts
  • Submit final reports and deliverables to supervisors in support of business area goals
  • Provide support to other teams to ensure compliance with forestry legislation in BC
Requirements
  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC)
  • Two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence
Preferred Qualifications
  • Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples
  • Coursework or experience in contract or financial administration
