About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Architect Lead to join our team at CannonDesign. As a key member of our design solutions firm, you will be responsible for leading the development of technical aspects and content for large, complex projects or multiple smaller projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Manage critical path processes to lead project teams through all technical and production aspects from initial stages of pre-design through project completion.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead the regular and ongoing engagement with the Office or Project Quality Leader for general and targeted project support.
  • Technical Integration: Lead the integration and development of all technical aspects and content of the work and translate them into our instruments of service.
  • Project Planning: Work with the Project Manager to establish and maintain realistic work and labor plans and deliverable schedules that contribute to the bottom-line financial success and satisfy contractual obligations.
  • Risk Management: Engage in and contribute to the Project Risk Assessment process including updates. Proactively identifies, communicates, mitigates, and resolves project-related issues.
  • Quality Management: Guide and assist Project Architects in the development of Project Quality Plans and updates to effectively manage project Quality including phase milestone reviews and project pinups/technical charettes.
  • Documentation Strategy: Review the development of and lead the execution of the documentation strategy for each phase drawing document deliverable through the Cartooning process.
  • Design Alignment: Work in collaboration with Project Design Lead to manage/align design aspirations with client goals, project budget, schedule and team.
  • Project Completion: Lead the translation of the project design intent through the technical documentation and construction phases to project completion.
  • Sustainable Design: Lead the integration of the project's building performance and sustainable design goals into a holistic design solution.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Continuously monitor project documentation and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Life Safety and Code Analysis: Guide and assist Project Architects in the Life Safety, Building and Energy Code analysis and compliance process for the project.
  • Discipline Coordination: Lead coordination of all disciplines with the architectural design intent.
  • Model Management: Collaborate with the Model Manager to monitor quality of the model processes, content, and deliverables.
  • Contract Documentation: Lead the alignment of the contract documentation by working closely with the Project Specification Writer, verifying Project Manual content and its coordination with the drawings.
  • Construction Administration: Lead all aspects of the Construction Administration phase responsibilities including the timely response to RFIs and submittals.
  • Team Management
  • Utilization and Performance: Monitor, train and direct the work of all project team members, focusing on technical quality and process standards.
  • Utilization Target: Meets established utilization target.
  • Quality Support: May assist Office Quality Leader with other project Quality reviews.
  • Office Quality Efforts: Supports office Quality efforts outside of direct project commitments.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor degree in a relevant field required.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of related professional experience required. Experience must include 5 years in increasingly responsible roles in construction documentation on institutional and/or commercial projects and at least 3 years in a responsible role in construction administration on large institutional or commercial projects.
  • Project Experience: Previous experience on large, complex projects.
  • Registration: Current Architectural Registration in Quebec required.
  • Accreditation: CDT and LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Skills: Demonstrated focus on quality. Knowledge of building codes and requirements. Must possess business acumen. Must have strong client leadership skills. Must have strong technical leadership skills for production team. Must be capable of leading and mentoring less experienced staff. Must have advanced knowledge in discipline. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and construction management software.
