About the Role

Lumacare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Support Worker to join our team. As a Personal Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our clients in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide homemaking and respite care services to clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Perform all personal care duties, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, with dignity and respect.
  • Assist clients with daily meals and nutritional snacks, promoting healthy eating habits and independence.
  • Monitor clients' well-being and report any changes or incidents to the supervisor, ensuring their safety and quality of care.
  • Travel to clients' homes daily to provide services, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to client-centered care.
Requirements
  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate required.
  • Physical ability to perform light cleaning and lifting, washing floors, dusting, laundry, and transferring clients, with knowledge of basic health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of routine precautions required for cleanliness and disinfecting, and for the control of the spread of communicable diseases (IPAC).
  • Able to build relationships with clients using a gentle approach, promoting trust and confidence.
  • Crisis intervention and problem-solving skills are required to anticipate and deal with client issues, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong sense of integrity and autonomy, with a commitment to upholding Lumacare's values and standards.
  • Immunization for tuberculosis, chickenpox, mumps, and hepatitis B is strongly urged.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification is required.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention, and Food Handlers' certificate is preferred.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police check completed within the last 12 months is required.
  • Familiarity in the use of Computers, E-mail, and Internet.
  • Fluency in a second language such as Italian/Spanish/Russian is an asset.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is a must.
  • Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination is required.
