JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Support Specialist collaborates closely with the Genesis Care and Treatment Counsellor within our school-based harm reduction treatment initiative. This program is a comprehensive, structured, therapeutic, non-residential day treatment service tailored for young individuals facing moderate to severe emotional, social, and behavioral challenges stemming from mental health issues and substance misuse. The program is specifically designed to cater to the needs of children experiencing difficulties such as emotional disturbances and anti-social behaviors, who are unable to thrive in a conventional classroom environment due to emotional and behavioral disorders.

Child and Youth Care Diploma

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting. Ability to make informed decisions and execute them effectively. Knowledge and experience with youth facing addiction issues. Capacity to remain composed in high-pressure situations requiring immediate assessment and action. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Strong understanding of basic child and adolescent management techniques. Capability to access and utilize community and professional resources. Familiarity with clinical evaluation tools is an asset. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including The Child Youth and Family Services Act and The Education Act. Skill in developing and maintaining professional relationships with various stakeholders. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite. Current First Aid and CPR certification is mandatory. Bilingual abilities (English/French) are advantageous. Valid Ontario Driver's License and willingness to travel is required. Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Uphold client confidentiality in accordance with agency policies. Participate in the Treatment Planning Team, contributing to the development and ongoing review of individual treatment plans. Oversee and facilitate the Foods Program. Create and implement structured daily living skills activities and group sessions as part of the overall service model. Engage in various Day Treatment activities, including Adventure-Based Learning, to provide effective interventions. Enforce agency policies to maintain a safe treatment environment. Deliver individual, family, and group services as needed. Collaborate with community case managers and other clinicians to ensure coordinated case plans. Maintain accurate records of client services and activity logs. Communicate clinical concerns to the appropriate supervisors. Contribute to the development of service proposals. Initiate a personal professional development plan. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
