Youth Services Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Youth Services Officer. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing primary services to youth within a secure detention/custody setting.
Job Summary:The Youth Services Officer position requires a strong understanding of youth justice principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with youth, staff, and community partners to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth to learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise youth on an assigned rotating shift in a secure custody/detention facility setting
- Ensure the safety and security of youth, staff, and the community
- Provide community escort duties to ensure the safety of youth, staff, and the public
- Support and deliver structured rehabilitative programs and reintegration services
- Use relationship-based and cognitive learning behavioral approaches to foster respectful, caring relationships and create a learning space for life and pro-social skills
- Post-secondary education from a college/university of recognized standing in a related field, with emphasis in behavior management, adolescent development, and knowledge of family group dynamics, plus one year of recent relevant work experience
- Valid Emergency First Aid, CPR (level C), and AED Certification
- Proven knowledge of sociological issues impacting on youth, youth/adolescent development theories, case management and group work principles and techniques, gender responsive therapeutic programming and treatment approaches, mental health and behavioral disorders, and youth justice related legislation
- Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth, staff, and community partners
