JOB SUMMARY:
The Youth Support Specialist collaborates closely with the Genesis Care and Treatment Counsellor within our innovative school-based harm reduction treatment initiative. This program offers a structured, therapeutic, non-residential day treatment experience tailored for youth facing moderate to severe emotional, social, and behavioral challenges stemming from mental health issues and substance misuse.
The program is specifically designed to cater to children struggling with emotional disturbances, anti-social behaviors, and those who cannot thrive in a traditional classroom setting due to emotional and behavioral disorders.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Child and Youth Care DiplomaMINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting. Ability to make informed decisions and execute them effectively. Knowledge and experience with youth dealing with addiction issues. Capacity to remain composed in high-pressure situations requiring immediate assessment and action. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Solid understanding of child and adolescent management techniques. Ability to leverage community and professional resources effectively. Familiarity with clinical evaluation tools is advantageous. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including The Child Youth and Family Services Act, The Education Act, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Skill in developing and maintaining professional relationships with agency staff, consultants, service providers, and families. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management systems. Current First Aid and CPR certification is mandatory. Bilingual capabilities (English/French) are a plus. Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle are required. Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends is necessary. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uphold client confidentiality at all times in accordance with agency policies. Participate in the Treatment Planning Team, aiding in the development and ongoing review of individual treatment plans. Oversee and facilitate the Foods Program. Create and implement structured daily living skills activities and group sessions as part of the program. Engage in various Day Treatment activities, including Adventure-Based Learning, to support effective interventions. Enforce agency policies to maintain a safe and secure treatment environment. Provide individual, family, and group services as needed. Collaborate with community case managers and other clinicians to ensure coordinated client care. Maintain accurate records of client services through established data collection processes. Communicate clinical concerns to the appropriate supervisors. Contribute to the development of service proposals for growth and delivery. Take initiative in creating a personal professional development plan.
