Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory testing in Cytology and Histology, adhering to established laboratory protocols and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:- Performing laboratory procedures for histology functions and grossing, microtomy, embedding, staining, and ensuring the completion of assigned workload.
- Screening each cytology slide and recording all findings for review by Pathologist.
- Operating, troubleshooting, maintenance, and cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area.
- Participating in teaching, educational, safety, and quality improvement programs.
- Observing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements.
- Performing cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested.
- CSMLS registration in Cytopathology.
- Currently licensed in good standing by CMLTO to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in the province of Ontario in Histology.
- Evidence of competency with respect to Cytology as per CMLTO guidelines.
- Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance – required.
- Cytology – minimum 1 year experience.
- Histology – experience is an asset.
- General certification in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute.
- Certification through the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
- Participation in professional committees, networks recommended.
- Minimum one (1) year recent laboratory experience in related discipline(s), as required by assigned area, preferred.
- General knowledge of all areas of the laboratory preferred.
- General knowledge of the theory and practices of applicable laboratory procedures and equipment required.
- Meditech and LIS knowledge and experience an asset.
- Experience with current instrumentation/automation in respective area an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to develop skill and knowledge in required areas of the laboratory required.

As a Regional Health Centre, our operations run 24/7, and depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work week days and weekends, as well as all shifts – days, evenings, and nights.
