The Senior Mechanical Estimator is a key member of our team at CO_3200 Canem Systems Ltd., responsible for delivering high-quality estimates for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical construction, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and contractors in the industry, providing expert advice on new and effective products and services.
- Prepare detailed mechanical budgets based on preliminary sketches, specifications, and other related information, ensuring accurate cost estimates for tendered projects.
- Coordinate and prepare for pre-tender site tours, participating in project site visits as requested, and analyzing possible cost savings for projects as requested by project managers.
- Set up data for estimates in computer programs, reviewing and confirming estimate information prior to tender closing, including drawings and supplier bill of materials.
- Analyze tender documents and contractual obligations, preparing and delivering quotation letters to clients prior to closing time with relevant management approvals.
- Maintain and update databases for estimating, change order, and service in relevant computer programs, ensuring accurate historical estimate data.
- Provide training and assistance for new and existing staff in estimating and change orders procedures, as well as estimating, change order, and related software.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a responsible and goal-oriented team player attitude, and contributing to a culture of operational and psychological safety.
- 10+ years' experience as a Mechanical Estimator, with a strong background in mechanical construction projects.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical construction projects, with experience in production or field operations considered an asset.
- Previous experience as a Senior Estimator, with informal or formal leadership experience considered a strong asset.
- Experience in estimating a full range of project delivery methods (Bid and Tender, IPD, Design build) of ICI construction projects up to $100+ million in Mechanical.
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or other equivalent construction program, or certification in one of the mechanical trades.
- Eligible for or have attained PQS, CET, or P. Eng designation, or have obtained a mechanical trade designation.
- Excellent engineering and technical knowledge of mechanical construction, with experience with AUTO CAD software and Autobid estimating software considered an asset.
- Current knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing, building, and municipal codes and regulations.
- Strong organizational abilities, demonstrated attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, be flexible, and adaptable, with strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
