Position Overview

EVRAZ North America is in search of a skilled Financial Operations Manager to play a pivotal role within our Canadian Finance/Accounting Team. We seek an individual who demonstrates leadership capabilities, possesses extensive accounting knowledge, excels in a dynamic environment, takes proactive steps for personal development, and creates opportunities for growth by enhancing the Business Unit's financial, accounting, and operational functions. This role will also involve effectively directing and mentoring the accounting team to achieve departmental objectives and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial closing processes while adhering to strict corporate timelines.
  • Oversee all accounting activities and transactions.
  • Evaluate monthly financial costing and operational results for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Conduct analysis and review of business unit financials, and develop reports assessing the performance of the business unit through sales, costs, working capital, and investments.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports by collaboratively establishing objectives and goals that promote employee growth.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from both internal and external auditors regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in monthly planning, forecasting activities, and annual budgeting processes.
  • Develop, analyze, and review the business unit's profit and loss forecast assumptions.
  • Offer financial and accounting support to operational management, utilizing actual data and forecast scenarios to inform operational and commercial decisions.
  • Perform detailed monthly financial analyses of costs, sales, key business indicators, and other financial metrics.
  • Analyze variances against forecasts, plans, and budgets, providing recommendations for business improvements.
  • Create financial models that illustrate key financial and operational relationships.
  • Represent the Finance department in Senior Management meetings concerning assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepare periodic internal, external, and business KPI reports for operations.
  • Review and authorize workflows related to accounting corrections and capital expenditure requests.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with insurance, property taxes, and utility purchases.
  • Support the finance team on various functional projects, ad hoc requests, special business-related studies, and financial analyses as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, along with a professional accounting designation.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, with preference for candidates who have a background in the manufacturing sector and/or cost accounting.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • A proven track record as a strong people leader, with experience in developing team members.
  • At least 5 years of prior management experience, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and work effectively through others.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong analytical, financial, systems, and problem-solving skills that support sound decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a history of employee development.
  • Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) reporting is advantageous.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, with advanced or expert-level skills in Excel.
  • Experience in financial modeling and valuation is essential.
  • Familiarity with Oracle and Hyperion cloud-based solutions is preferred.
