Job Summary:

Total Safety is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Primary Care Paramedic/Fire Fighter to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Response Team, you will be responsible for responding to emergencies, assessing situations, and applying appropriate protocols to ensure the safety of our personnel and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to site emergencies, including fires, technical rescues, hazmat incidents, and medical emergencies.
  • Take a leadership role in managing the Emergency Response Team, ensuring the safety of all responders is paramount.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of emergency services equipment, including testing and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement department-specific protocols and training to meet the requirements for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of emergency services equipment.
  • Provide service and support to maintain SCBA and SABA equipment.
  • Assure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Conduct classroom and field training/drills for all emergency services scenarios.
  • Review site fire pre-plans for accuracy and participate in drills to exercise these plans.
  • Deliver ERT initial and annual refresher training, providing guidance and expertise to the ERT.
  • Assess risk related to fire protection impairments and develop contingency plans to mitigate.
  • Develop rescue plans as required for high-risk work.
  • Act as an ambassador for Health and Safety.
  • Remain current with industry skills, education, and practices involving Fire, Rescue, and Medical Response.
  • Must be willing to respond as on call in the event of a significant incident or as required to support an incident.
  • Must be able to successfully complete initial and ongoing annual fitness evaluation.

Requirements:

  • Certified as NFPA 1001 level 2 from an International Fire Services Accreditation Council (IFSAC) or Pro board accredited facility.
  • Certified and registered through Alberta College of Paramedics to work in Alberta as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP).
  • Class 3 drivers' license, with Q endorsement.
  • Certified as 1041 Fire Services Instructor Level 1 would be considered an asset.
  • Certified as NFPA 472 HazMat Technician would be considered an asset.
  • Certified NFPA 1002 Pumper Operator would be considered an asset.
  • Certified as NFPA 1006 high angle and confined space technician would be considered an asset.
  • Discipline-related degrees, diplomas, and certificates would be taken into consideration.
  • Emergency response experience in a Refinery, Upgrader, or Chemical plant is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

This is a physically demanding role that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to work independently with little to no supervision at times and be able to excel in a high workload and high demand environment.
