Addiction Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join the Alcohol & Drug Program, Sunshine Coast Mental Health team in Sechelt, BC. The successful candidate will provide direct nursing care and supportive counseling to clients in the process of detoxification, stabilization, and/or transitioning into other residential addiction services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct nursing care and supportive counseling to clients with mental health and/or addiction issues.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to achieve excellence in client-centred care and education.
- Develops and implements individualized treatment plans to meet the unique needs of clients.
- Provides education and support to clients and their families on substance use and recovery.
- Works effectively with challenging clients to maintain a safe environment for clients and staff.
Requirements
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years' recent, related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or addiction issues.
- Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of recovery and trauma-informed practice.
- Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family-centred model of care.
- Knowledge of BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice.
- Broad knowledge of substance use and a non-judgmental attitude towards working with clients with problematic substance use through their recovery.
