Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead the engineering and maintenance teams at a prestigious hotel. As the Assistant Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the hotel's physical plant, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the engineering and maintenance teams to ensure the hotel's facilities are well-maintained and meet the highest standards of safety and quality.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and reduce energy consumption.
  • Oversee the coordination and deployment of daily service and weekly preventive maintenance work orders to achieve maximum impact.
  • Monitor and control the hotel's energy consumption and implement energy conservation programs to minimize expenses.
  • Manage the hotel's maintenance budget and ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in a cost-effective manner.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure that the hotel receives the best possible service and products.
  • Ensure that all engineering and maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including the Ontario Fire Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering and maintenance teams to ensure that they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the engineering and maintenance teams to ensure that they are meeting their targets and objectives.
Requirements
  • 6 years' experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-/Electrical/Plumbing.
  • 2 or 3-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major.
  • Strong knowledge of building code, OHSA and Ontario Fire Code.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in chillers, boilers, HVAC, refrigeration and plumbing.
  • Previous engineering experience working in a full-service hotel considered an important asset.
  • Resourceful at troubleshooting.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Computer and Office skills required.
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts - am, pm, weekday, weekends, and holidays, as required.
