The Indigenous Theatre Department at the NAC is dedicated to nurturing, developing, and showcasing Indigenous narratives across Canada. Our mission is to honor our storytellers, thereby supporting the retention, resurgence, and resilience of the diverse Indigenous cultures of this land.

#ReconcileThis Initiative:
This four-year collaboration with Facebook (Meta) aims to empower hundreds of transformative Indigenous Voices by providing funding, production equipment, and training to share their stories and celebrate their culture online. The creators' work will encompass a variety of artistic expressions, including performances in dance, theatre, and music, as well as social media content creation, podcast production, and writing in digital formats.

As part of the Indigenous Theatre team and reporting directly to the Producer, the Associate Producer will play a vital role in supporting the programming for the #ReconcileThis initiative. This position entails active participation in internal and external activities, decision-making, and financial oversight of the project budget.

Key Duties Include:
  • Collaborating with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, Producer, and Production department to plan, schedule, and execute the #ReconcileThis initiative, including outreach, artist negotiations, contract writing, and budget management.
  • Coordinating with Facebook (Meta) on artist training and equipment transfer.
  • Working with NAC colleagues to implement and promote company-wide practices.
  • Ensuring a physically, emotionally, and culturally safe environment for all individuals involved, including visiting artists.
Required Skills:
  • Strong administrative and communication abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in production across various mediums (theatre, film, dance, or television).
  • Proficient in budget preparation and management.
  • Skilled in scheduling and contract negotiation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital processes and communication.
  • Excellent project management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and conflicting schedules.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit storytelling and artistic expressions that honor culturally specific knowledge and experiences.
  • Ability to share Indigenous knowledge and respect cultural protocols is essential.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
  • Familiarity with an Indigenous language is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms is advantageous.
