What is the Opportunity?
  • Assume overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with Aecon's Project Controls standards and relevant contract documents.
  • Establish and uphold the integrated Project Controls systems for the project, overseeing the development of cost and schedule baselines.
  • Facilitate meetings aimed at communicating project performance status to the broader project team.
  • Lead a team of Project Controls professionals specializing in planning, scheduling, cost management, change management, and risk assessment.
  • Assist Project Managers in monitoring overall project health; establish and maintain a communication strategy to ensure accurate and timely information flow.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of Aecon's Project Controls policies and guidelines.
  • Oversee the analysis and reporting of key project performance metrics (e.g., CPI, SPI, key commodity tracking, etc.); recommend corrective actions to sustain performance and productivity; provide timely alerts regarding adverse trends.
  • Implement and sustain an Earned Value Management framework to assess project performance, identify variances, and facilitate accurate forecasting.
  • Lead the creation of project-specific Project Controls plans, documenting the processes and procedures to be adhered to throughout the project.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a project-specific change management strategy, ensuring compliance with contract stipulations and Aecon's standards.
  • Support Commercial and Procurement teams in assessing subcontractor claims, developing client claims, negotiating, and resolving disputes.
  • Provide commercial and technical insights to support proposal development and offer commercial input regarding contractually defined project control requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all contract conditions related to Project Controls requirements, project initiation, monitoring, and closure.
  • Establish and maintain robust partnerships with client representatives and joint venture stakeholders (where applicable).
  • Foster a safe, open, and respectful workplace culture and environment.
  • Offer feedback and guidance to direct reports for annual goal setting; assist in developing individual career development plans and identifying training and professional growth opportunities.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations (with mid-year reviews) and provide constructive feedback; implement performance improvement plans as necessary with support from Human Resources.
  • Participate in project-level resource planning, utilization analysis, and resource leveling; manage and maintain forecasts for Project Controls staffing plans.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for new Project Controls personnel; communicate resource requirements with senior leadership.

What You Bring to the Table:
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven analytical and adaptive thinking abilities.
  • Post-secondary degree in Quantitative, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Strong collaborative skills within teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Agility and flexibility in a dynamic environment.

  • Experience as a Project Controls advocate.
  • Experience with EPC contractors (self-performing).
  • Field experience in construction.
  • Experience with mega-projects or portfolio projects.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in Project Controls (e.g., through PMI or AACE certification).
  • Experience in stakeholder management.
  • Strategic mindset.
  • Experience in consensus building.
  • Experience in claims avoidance and/or claims negotiation.
  • Leadership experience in high-performing teams.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6.
  • Expertise in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE).
  • Expertise in cost management or estimating systems (e.g., Hard Dollar, EcoSys, PRISM).

Nuclear Requirements
  • Due to the nature of the work, compliance with mandated nuclear export controls is essential for employment. Our background check process includes a comprehensive security check and clearance process, along with reference checks. The security clearance process entails a thorough review of previous residences, employment, education, and other relevant information. Preference will be given to those with a valid Bruce Power security clearance.
