Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Gas and Petroleum Technologist to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our Distribution Planning department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our natural gas distribution system.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Capacity Planning: Prepare capital plans for distribution assets, including transmission pressure laterals, stations, intermediate pressure lines, and distribution piping.
  • Hydraulic Analysis: Perform hydraulic analyses to confirm distribution pipe sizing, determine system improvement requirements, and identify customers affected by system damage.
  • Distribution Modeling: Create, update, and verify distribution models using steady state analyses and review models with Operations personnel.
  • Professional Services: Provide professional services to internal clients, including performing hydraulic analyses and identifying emergency sectionalization areas.
  • Capacity Planning: Participate in annual preview of winter operations, performing hydraulic analyses to confirm operability of current distribution assets and level of service to interruptible customers.
  • Engineering Support: Assist manager and engineers in supporting internal clients, developing long-term alternatives for transmission pipeline laterals, and establishing level of service to interruptible customers.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of an Applied Sciences Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) recognized post-secondary technologist diploma program in gas and petroleum, civil, mechanical, or related technology.
  • Certification: Certified at the technologist level by the Applied Sciences Technologist and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years directly related work experience in System Capacity Planning.
  • Skills: Full understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics properties and behaviors of natural gas and other related organic hydrocarbon products.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills in applications in use in the department, and skills with general office software applications.
