We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Improvement Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Continuous Improvement, this position is vital in collaborating with senior stakeholders across the organization to execute WestJet's strategic initiatives. The role focuses on enhancing productivity, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness, driving significant transformational enhancements, identifying business improvement opportunities, and ensuring the successful implementation and sustainability of these initiatives.

The Senior Improvement Specialist will engage with all facets of our operations to refine WestJet's processes, boost efficiency, eliminate waste, and enhance productivity through continuous improvement methodologies while fostering employee engagement and maintaining high safety standards to improve the overall guest experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop continuous improvement program reports, including preparing executive summaries, steering committee updates, and KPI dashboards to monitor progress and outcomes of initiatives.
  • Oversee the governance framework for cost programs, defining initiatives, milestones, and deliverables, while facilitating communication among initiative leaders and addressing challenges.
  • Act as a change agent to foster a culture of accountability and disciplined execution; design and implement change management strategies to support organizational transformation; develop communication plans to ensure stakeholder engagement and influence decision-making positively.
  • Lead and coach cross-functional teams in executing continuous improvement initiatives that yield significant, measurable, and sustainable business outcomes.
  • Build effective partnerships with business leaders to evaluate current processes, identify improvement areas, and realize cost savings; promote process-oriented thinking within the organization and encourage innovative approaches.
  • Collaborate with the Continuous Improvement team to enhance frameworks, methodologies, strategies, and success metrics to achieve exemplary business results.
  • Foster employee engagement through recognition and rewards for contributions to productivity, simplicity, and cost efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Over 8 years of experience in process enhancement, cost reduction, program management, and governance within a large organization.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field, complemented by relevant experience.
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is mandatory.
  • Change management certification (e.g., Prosci ADKAR) is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in planning and executing large-scale organizational changes that engage all levels of staff.
  • Coaching abilities to guide teams in identifying improvement areas and utilizing problem-solving frameworks for sustainable results.
  • Capacity to build trust and engagement with diverse teams, even in challenging situations.
  • A demonstrated ability to influence others' behavior without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with an aptitude for navigating ambiguity.
  • Ability to respectfully challenge existing practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging individuals at all organizational levels.
  • A proactive, positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
