Overview

The Third-Year Welding Apprentice plays a crucial role in the creation of custom prototypes based on provided schematics. This position involves the development of specialized jigs and fixtures for the production of parts that adhere to client specifications, alongside the construction of metal frameworks utilizing jigs and fixtures in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Collaboration with Supervisors and Lead Hands is essential to foster continuous enhancements in workstations, achieving production targets, and executing welding tasks in accordance with established parameters through MIG, ARC, and TIG welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities

- Interpret and analyze blueprints or welding process specifications to ensure functionality in the intended application.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding machinery to join metal components using techniques such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW), resistance welding, and submerged arc welding (SAW).
- Utilize brazing, soldering, and flame-cutting equipment, whether manual or semi-automatic.
- Manage metal shaping tools such as brakes, shears, and other equipment for straightening and bending metals.
- Repair metal products by adding layers through welding.
- Conduct inspections, repairs, modifications, and retrofits on technical components.
- Monitor material usage and report any discrepancies.
- Ensure the accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Maintain detailed and precise documentation.
- Stay informed on advancements in technology, compliance, and repair methodologies.
- Adhere to all safety protocols as per company standards and relevant regulations.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

- Registered as an apprentice welder in Alberta and actively enrolled in an accredited trade school.
- Progressing towards Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB certifications.
- Valid welding credentials in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified for all positions.
- Capable of working under the guidance of journeyman electricians, both collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with routine maintenance tasks.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions

- Year-round employment (not seasonal)
- Indoor work environment
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Compliance with safety policies (use of protective gear is mandatory).
- Overtime may be required.
- Awareness of trade-related hazards.
- Indoor work only.
