Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child and Youth Care Practitioner to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Residential Child Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being and development of individuals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, set goals, and evaluate progress of individuals served, promoting their social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
  • Teach daily routines and activities to foster social skills and independence.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals, utilizing practices that promote health, welfare, and security.
  • Provide behavior management counseling, emotional support, and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff, families, and the community to ensure seamless support.
  • Perform household duties, including meal preparation and cleaning, to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Transport individuals to appointments and community outings, promoting socialization and community integration.
  • Participate in the OHS Committee and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Operate vehicles safely and legally while transporting individuals or on WJS business.
  • Advocate effectively for individuals served, promoting their rights and interests.
Requirements
  • Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma, or a related field, with a minimum of two years of recent experience in child and youth care or a related field.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle and appropriate insurance.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates, or ability to obtain within the probation period.
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate (NVCI) and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate, or ability to obtain within the probation period.
  • Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test.
  • Prior experience with implementing Behavioral Interventions and Trauma-Informed Practices.
