About the RoleNova Scotia Health (NSH) is dedicated to enhancing patient-centered healthcare by consolidating resources and streamlining services across the province. This initiative aims to optimize healthcare delivery, ensuring that patient needs are met effectively while minimizing redundancy in services.
The role of the Donation Physician is pivotal in advancing and executing a comprehensive donation framework throughout Nova Scotia. This position acts as a key advocate for deceased donation within the Critical Care and Emergency Care sectors, reporting directly to the Medical Director of the Legacy of Life/Critical Care Organ Donation program.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Donation Physician will:
- Provide medical leadership and advocate for the organ and tissue donation initiative.
- Collaborate closely with Critical and Emergency Care physicians to offer guidance and support regarding deceased donation.
- Ensure that all mandatory referral requirements and logistical processes outlined in the Human Organ and Tissue Donation Act (HOTDA) are communicated effectively to hospital staff.
- Work alongside the Medical Director and other leaders to implement donation practices and policies throughout NSH.
- Support the integration of donation into quality end-of-life care, facilitating opportunities for families to consider donation.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A valid medical license to practice in Nova Scotia.
- Experience as an attending physician in Critical Care.
- Previous involvement with an Organ Donation/Procurement Organization is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and basic proficiency in computer applications.
This is a term position with compensation set at $10,000 for approximately 0.03 FTE.
