About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Geriatrician to join their team at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish. As a Geriatrician, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide consultation and leadership in the care of frail elderly patients on the inpatient Geriatric Assessment and Rehab Unit, inpatient service, and outpatient clinic.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation and leadership in the care of frail elderly patients
  • Support community hospitals in the region and develop the service within the zone
  • Participate in the stroke program for acute stroke care and stroke rehab
  • Be part of Nova Scotia Health's Division of Geriatric Medicine and adjunct appointment and research opportunities with Dalhousie University's Division of Geriatric Medicine
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of Geriatric Medicine training as part of Internal Medicine training OR Care of Elderly (COE) Certification in addition to Family Medicine CCFP
  • Membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
Work Environment

St. Martha's Regional Hospital is a well-equipped hospital with diagnostic and treatment services. The hospital has beds and a 23-bed Veteran's Unit. The hospital is located in Antigonish, and the team works collaboratively with a great team of comprehensive healthcare providers across Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and other specialties.

Research and Education Opportunities

There are opportunities for teaching available with academic appointment through Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. There is a Family Medicine Residency Program on site in Antigonish through the Dalhousie Medical School. Medical students from any medical school nation-wide and world-wide may come to Antigonish for electives in Palliative Care. Research opportunities are also available.
