The Cree School Board is looking to hire speech-language pathologists (S-LPs).
The available positions offer a flexible home-based location, whether it’s in your hometown or in one of the nine picturesque and serene Cree Communities within Eeyou Istchee. Each S-LP may work in 1 or a maximum of 2 Eeyou communities. The position requires working in communities of Eeyou Istchee for a minimum of 1 week per month.

Qualifications
The Cree School Board is looking for candidates who:
- are motivated to participate in the development and implementation of new high-quality S-LP services based on research and best practices; are sensitive to the cultural, social and regional context when developing and implementing services;
- have working knowledge of cultural competency, client-centered approach, child development, early intervention, inclusive education, consultative model of services and community-based services;
- have excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, relationship building and teamwork skills;
- can think critically, work independently, solve problems collaboratively, and be highly adaptable, organized, reliable and self-motivated;
- are a member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec; can work in English; and
- can provide a current vulnerable sector criminal record check.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize a Culturally Sensitive Consultative and Collaborative Model of Services.
- Contribute to the development, planning, delivery or supervision of school-wide initiatives to promote early prevention and identification, and to support the development of speech, language and communication skills in a culturally relevant manner.
- Plan, organize and conduct culturally relevant training, information and awareness-building activities related to communication difficulties.
- Establish and maintain collaboration and relationships with partner organizations.
- Participate in program evaluation measures, per departmental requirements.
- Contribute to advising management staff, prepare expertise and make appropriate recommendations to support decision making.
- With a culturally sensitive approach, administer dynamic assessments, support case planning and provide targeted tiered intervention, while prioritizing in-class and inclusive education support when possible.
- Contribute to the detection and identification of students experiencing communication difficulties.
- Make clinical conclusions on student communication skills, including the use of informal and dynamic measures when necessary, using a culturally informed perspective.
- Work collaboratively with local staff and caregivers to identify functional intervention priorities, goals and means.
- If necessary, work with a multidisciplinary team to draw up and review a student’s individualized intervention plan.
- Provide advice, support and modeling for adapting or modifying the classroom, teaching strategies, intervention/communication tools and instructional material for identified students with communication difficulties.
- Inform school staff of the nature of the communication difficulties of identified students and how it impacts their learning process and their functioning at school.
- Ensure the development and adaptation of culturally relevant tools for school resources and family members to address specific speech, language and communication goals.
- Work directly with other team members to coordinate, support or provide culturally relevant interventions and to assess the achievement of objectives, either virtually or in-community.
- Prepare and update files, progress notes, evaluation or progress reports and other documentation according to the standards related to the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board.
Required Qualifications
- The following knowledge and experience are assets:
- 2-5 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist with school-age children;
- Knowledge of Cree and/or Indigenous culture and/or language; knowledge of French language;
- Experience with telehealth.
