Objective:

The Preventive Maintenance Engineer-In-Training is responsible for identifying key equipment that is adversely impacting plant performance, proposing robust solutions to improve reliability, and overseeing their implementation. The role involves regular field inspections in an industrial environment to develop a thorough understanding of the various plant machinery. The Preventive Maintenance EIT is expected to plan, schedule, and supervise preventative and corrective maintenance tasks, and to promote continuous improvement in a fast-paced workplace.

Responsibilities:

Safety:

- Ensure compliance with OH&S and environment policies for Maintenance personnel.
- Establish safety culture and tackle specific actions to ensure health and safety prevention during maintenance activities.
- Contribute to plant housekeeping and cleanliness.
- Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company's vision and critical success factors.

Maintenance Inspections & Planning:

- Frequent walk-by running inspections and comprehensive shutdown inspections are critical to developing a familiarity with plant operation.
- The EIT will work closely with the Maintenance Inspectors to gain exposure to all equipment around the plant, participating in regular field inspections.
- As found work is discovered, the EIT is responsible for generating work orders in SAP and prioritizing their execution to ensure reliable plant performance.
- Plan and Schedule weekly and daily maintenance plans, 13 weeks' master plan and major shutdowns.

Problem Solving:

- This role acts as a trouble-shooter for recurring or complex failures.
- Relying on engineering principles and analytical methods (Pareto diagrams, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis), identify and prioritize opportunities to improve plant reliability.
- Propose and justify corrective actions, and prepare a scope of work for their implementation.
- The EIT is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant, including updating bills of materials, creating job plans, ensuring proper inventory of spare parts, and tracking plant performance metrics.

Relationship with Others:

- Reports to the Preventive Maintenance Head
- Works independently and in cross-functional teams involving Production, Process, and Quality
- Oversees the implementation of preventative maintenance actions, including the supervision of unionized workers/contractors

Specific Accountabilities:

- Perform routine walk-by inspections and follow up with shift report comments, creating and prioritizing work orders in SAP as found work is identified.
- Prepare a weekly down day schedule (one day per week) to execute corrective and improvement actions.
- The EIT will plan and coordinate the jobs, and supervise workers on the down day to ensure the work is being executed correctly and to a high quality.
- Facilitate Root Cause Analyses in response to significant equipment failures or production losses.
- Work with cross-functional teams to identify solutions and drive their implementation.
- Participate in weekly planning meetings to coordinate work scheduling priorities.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Planners, Coordinator, and Supervisors to ensure work is performed properly, efficiently, and with the correct parts.
- Update Bill of Materials, inventory requirements, parts descriptions and databases as required.
- Contribute to the area Improvement Team(s), representing maintenance in implementing (from concept to execution) solutions to recurring problems.
- A continuous improvement mindset is essential in this role.
- Perform risk assessment prior to commencing any non-routine field work, and ensuring anyone performing work under the supervision of the EIT does the same.
- Participates in the plant "On-Call" system.

Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Internship experience in an industrial work environment is preferred.
- Registered as an EIT with APEGA or eligible for registration.

Preferred skills:

- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills, and a proven ability to perform under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel and unionized workers.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in a team environment.
- Proficiency in SAP is an asset.
- Experience with CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor) is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.).
