The Regional Training Officer will deliver training and evaluation for RDCK Volunteer Fire Departments, ensuring firefighters are trained to required standards including the BC Structural Firefighter Minimum Training Standards, and able to respond to emergency incidents.

This position is a supervisory role when delivering training and evaluation for volunteer firefighters.

The person in this position is required to provide training to volunteer firefighters and direction to "As and When" Trainers around the regional district during regularly scheduled training nights and on many weekends throughout the year. As such, this position is not suitable for someone who intends to be an active volunteer with their local fire department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

The Regional Training Officer would normally attain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities through a combination of training and experience. Additionally, the incumbent must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, demonstrate sound work ethic, maintain flexibility, and conduct oneself with consistency and fairness.

The Regional Training Officer should possess the following:

1. Three (3) years experience delivering fire services training.
2. Experience delivering course material at the level of a 'Train the Trainer'.
3. Considerable firefighting experience, with experience as an officer.
4. Minimum of 5 years fire service experience.
5. NFPA 1001 – Professional Qualifications for Firefighter – Level II.
6. NFPA 1041 – Fire Service Instructor – Level I.
7. AED and First Responder Level III with CPR or equivalent.
8. First Responder Instructor.
9. BCERMS – ICS 200.
10. Valid Class 5 BC drivers license, with air endorsement, no more than 6 demerit points.

PREFERRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

1. BCERMS – ICS 300.
2. NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer.
3. NFPA 472 – Hazardous Materials – Technician.
4. NFPA 1006 – Technical Rope Rescue Technician.
5. NFPA 1006 – Vehicle Rescue.
6. Evaluator with any or all of COTR, VIERA, JIBC and Red Cross.
7. NFPA 1021 – Standard for Fire Officer Qualifications – Level II.
8. NFPA 1041 – Fire Service Instructor – Level II.
9. NFPA 1002 – Pump and Apparatus Operator.
10. SPP-WFF 1 – Train the Trainer certification.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of modern firefighting and fire prevention methods, incident command systems, apparatus and equipment.
2. Demonstrated experience training others to lead training exercises.
3. Ability to lead and supervise students, provide direction and support, and be responsive to the unique needs of volunteers spread across a large regional district.
4. Sound knowledge of acts, regulations and standards governing training within Fire Departments.
5. Ability to deal effectively with people in difficult situations.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently.
7. Effective oral and written communication skills.
8. Effective public relations and public speaking skills.
9. Demonstrated proficiency using e-learning technology, and web-based lectures.
10. Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office Suite.
11. Time management skills.
12. Understanding of cultural and political environment.

The normal starting annual salary is $84,664, with a range from $80,983—$92,026 depending upon education and experience. This is a benefitted position.
