Assistant Executive Director

Job Description Reporting to the Executive Director, the Assistant Executive Director is responsible for the support of overall management and operations of the Long-Term Care home. In this role the focus will be on achieving optimum standards of service, care and value to our residents within profit objectives and in a manner consistent with regulatory requirements and Extendicare Mission and values.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain efficient operations within prescribed budgetary parameters;Assist in the home's operations to ensure full compliance with expenditures related to funding streams.Assist in the maintenance of operations following compliance with authorities having jurisdiction and consistency with Extendicare policies and procedures;Support and promote a culture of customer service;Participate in the development of the home's annual operating and capital budgets and ensure conformance to approved budgets on an ongoing basis;Ensure staff maintain professional competencies and current knowledge of appropriate policies, procedures and regulatory requirements;Collaborate with the Executive Director to select, orient and train new hires; Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare Code of Conduct;Complete other duties as assigned.Required Education, Credentials and Experience:• A university degree in Health, Gerontology, Business, Marketing or Social Services• LTC Administrator Certification (where applicable)• Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant health management experience includingbudgeting, operating statement analysis, labor relations and a thorough awareness of applicable legislation governing LTC operations• Demonstrated ability to lead and engage a sizeable multidisciplinary team, in aunionized environment• Working understanding of business planning processes and utilization of KeyPerformance Indicators (KPI) to drive business success and achievement ofstrategies• Experience in risk management activities and demonstrated knowledge of continuous quality improvement processes• Passion to promote a person-centered care philosophy and work with seniors• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.Core Competencies (included for posting only)• Financial Acumen• Industry/Regulatory Knowledge• Business Acumen• Relationship Management• People Management• Customer Service• Change ManagementAttributes of an Effective Leader• Strategy Development: Understands the organization’s strategy and sets priorities to make it happen• Self-Motivated and Results Driven: Takes ownership and holds themselves andothers responsible for delivering high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results• Collaboration: Inspires a collaborative team environment and works effectively with others with the ability to influence• Effective Communication: Actively listens, seeking to understand all perspectives and communicates with respect• Problem Solving: Recognizes and takes ownership to resolve issues outside of clear role mandate• Builds High Performing Teams: Builds the capability of individuals and teamsthrough continuous feedback, coaching, and a commitment to learning anddevelopment• Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement: Uses data to identify and measureperformance and develop solutions to motivate improvement.What Extendicare has to offer:At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
