Posted Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 8:00 AM Legal Aid Alberta is seeking to fill a full-time, 24 month Legal Assistant position in our Edmonton office. Job Description
Reporting to the Office Manager, some of the
key responsibilities
include:
- Preparingandmanaginga large volume of internal and external legal documents, correspondence, and materials in hard copy and electronic formats.
- Gathering, analyzing, andorganizinginformation from clients, opposing counsel, and other third parties for active files or court docket lists, including legal, financial, andrelateddocuments.
- Maintainingfiles in databases and hard copy.
- Managingcalendars,bookingappointments,schedulingcourt dates,completingfilediarization, andpreparingsupporting materials.
- Filingdocuments with the court andcoordinating the deliveryof documentsbetweenLegal Aid Alberta offices and the courthouse.
- Maintainingtracking documents for work completed on legal files and recording file statistics.
- Commission documents asrequired.
- Preparingdraft invoices and statements of account.
- Providingcoverage for co-workers during vacations and other leaves.
- Participatingin meetings asrequired.
- Performingother duties as directed by management. Education and Experience
- Legal Assistant Diploma or Certificate isrequired.
- A minimum of twoyearsrelated legal assistant experience is an asset, particularly in criminal law, family law, administrative law, tribunal processes. Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of legal support processes.
- Knowledgeofor experiencewithcriminal law, family law, administrative law,andtribunal processeswill be considered an asset.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,and Legal Files.
- Experience using various office equipment, including printers, copiers, and fax machines.
- Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- A demonstratedcommitment to continuous improvement. Annual Salary Range: $54,378 to $77,910
