Economic Development Officer

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is seeking an experienced and results-driven Economic Development Officer for a 32-month term. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in economic, business, or community development who is ready to help shape the growth and prosperity of the community.
In this position, you’ll support local economic growth by working with businesses and investors, developing business cases and strategies, promoting sustainable tourism opportunities, and fostering partnerships with local, Indigenous, and community stakeholders. You’ll help attract investment, support business expansion, organize key community events, and provide training and resources to ensure local businesses thrive.
What You’ll Do
- Help carry out the Municipality’s sports and ecotourism plan.
- Develop business cases to improve sports facilities to attract sports tourism.
- Promote the community’s sports and outdoor tourism through marketing and events.
- Work with local businesses to create visitor packages and support sustainable tourism.
- Organize and host major sports and outdoor events that draw visitors to the area.
- Support local business growth through investment attraction and planning.
- Partner with local and Indigenous groups to highlight culture and heritage.
- Offer training to help local businesses grow and prepare for more tourism.
What You Bring
- Experience in economic development, tourism, or community development, ideally with a focus on sports or ecotourism.
- Strong project management skills – able to keep things moving on time and on budget.
- Great at building partnerships – comfortable working with local businesses, sports groups, Indigenous communities, and tourism operators.
- Creative marketing skills – digital channels and tourism campaigns.
- Knowledge of rural or small-town economic growth strategies.
- Understanding of sustainable tourism and the ability to promote eco-friendly and culturally respectful experiences.
- Education or training in economic development, tourism, or business.
37.5 hours per week at $46.98 per hour.
32-month term
