How you will create an impact

This position involves handling various types of mainstream physical damage claims, including vehicle repairs, total losses, subrogation, fault determination, DCPD claims, and out-of-province claims. Responsibilities include determining coverage, drafting reservation of rights and denial letters, attending mediations or settlement conferences, and instructing independent adjusters and attorneys in negotiations and settlements. Most claims are in Canadian venues, with limited international exposure.

- Review casualty claims in conjunction with policy wordings to determine coverage.

- Provide guidance to adjusters on claims investigation.

- Prepare disclaimer and reservation of rights letters and communicate with underwriters, brokers, and insureds.

- Instruct legal counsel to resolve claims appropriately.

- Ensure legal compliance with litigation guidelines.

- Participate in mediation/ADR processes for claim resolution.

- Negotiate settlements directly where possible.

- Issue payments promptly.

- Operate within best practices guidelines, including timely reserve reviews, notes, payment requests, and electronic diary management.

- Inform management of complaints, large losses, coverage issues, etc.

What you’ll need to succeed

- At least 3 years of experience or knowledge in handling commercial auto claims is preferred.

- College/University education or equivalent industry experience.

- Decision-making and directive skills for counsel and adjusters.

- Strong negotiation skills.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Organizational and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

- Efficient workload management skills.

- Willingness to obtain CIP designation is an asset.

- Proficiency with computer systems for paperless claims management.
