Explore your next role:

The Manager, Accounting plays a crucial role in the organization by overseeing the financial activities, ensuring adherence to accounting principles and standards, and providing accurate and timely financial information to management. This position involves leading a team of accountants, managing financial reporting processes, budgeting, forecasting, and implementing strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting

- Supervise and review the month, quarter, and year-end closing processes.
- On a monthly basis prepare the financial statements, for review and approval by the Director of Accounting and VP Finance, respectively.
- Engage with company executives and external auditors to ensure appropriate disclosure and reporting.
- Collaborate with Chorus Corporate Accounting to analyze accounting implications for complicated transactions, as required.
- Complete annual Statistics Canada Surveys and reports as mandated.

General Accounting

- Supervise all financial management aspects, including accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger.
- Develop and implement financial policies, and procedures for accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare regular and ad hoc financial statements/reports, reconciliations, as requested by senior management.
- Work with the accounting team to ensure the required general ledger (GL) account working papers are completed accurately on a monthly basis.
- Review key account reconciliations to ensure that the transactions are documented, recorded and accounted for appropriately.
- Provide support to the Director of Accounting in determining various IFRS required accounting provisions on a quarterly basis.

Business Process Controls & Procedures and Compliance

- Coordinate with internal and external auditors; provide all appropriate material for reviews and audits of financial statements.
- Working with the Director of Accounting, establish internal controls and monitor metrics as required. Develop, monitor, and update IA (Internal Audit) narratives as required to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Evaluate financial reporting systems and procedures for enhancements and updates.

Treasury Support

- Take charge of all treasury-related matters, including designing internal controls.
- Support treasury-related year-end activities to ensure accurate and timely processing and reporting.
- Development of policies and processes for precise expense reporting, asset safeguarding, and compliance with regulations.
- Process review – review existing procedures within Treasury with efforts to streamline and increase efficiencies while improving our financial reporting and management information.
- Monitor account balances to ensure cash position is within minimum guidelines and provide recommendations to management for projected amounts when appropriate.

Team Leadership and Development

- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the staff accountant and accounting assistants to enhance their professional growth.
- Delegate tasks effectively, assign responsibilities, and monitor progress to ensure team objectives are met.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide constructive feedback to staff accountant and accounting assistants.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment to promote teamwork and productivity within the team.

Additional Duties

- Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations during contract negotiations.
- Assist in the communication of corporate policy and procedures to stakeholders.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and work direction to direct reports to ensure team efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure staff has the information and resources to make successful plans and decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.

Your Distinctive Ingredients for Success:

- Post-secondary degree in Business/Accounting or equivalent education.
- Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA) designation or equivalent accounting-specific training certification.
- 7 years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative and project planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, achieve objectives and work under pressure.

You must be legally eligible to work for a Canadian company (e.g., be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or possess a valid work permit) and provide a clear Criminal Background Check.
