The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Cultural Services department is seeking a temporary part-time Branch Assistant for the North Team (Wingham, Blyth, and Howick branches)
Position Summary
The North Team is currently hiring for a Part-Time Branch Assistant for the Wingham, Blyth and Howick branches for approximately 15-22 hours per week for a one year contract to cover a leave of absence.
There is also the opportunity to pick up additional shifts on team and in other branches. Shifts will include some weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Schedule is subject to change to meet the needs of the library.
This position provides assistance to the manager regarding the day-to-day operation of branch libraries in order to provide public library service to the community and surrounding area. The successful applicant is expected to model a positive mindset towards 21 st century library approaches to library service, and their role will be heavily focused on developing community connections at the branch level along with Goderich maker space support.

- Help maintain branch operations in coordination with the manager
- Program development and implementation at the branch level across the 2 West Team branches
- Support the Community Hub initiative through partnership development and community outreach in locations away from the branch
- Deliver in-depth reference and readers’ advisory services
- Provide exemplary customer service while assisting patrons to find information in all formats via phone, email, or in-person
- Working in a collaborative environment and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
- Providing technical assistance to library users
- Working in more than one branch library
Qualifications and Education
- Post-secondary training in public library service, such as Library Technician or Techniques Diploma, or Excel Program in Small Library Management
- Two years’ experience (3000 hours) working in a library environment or equivalent public service experience.
- Experience in social work and mental health support an asset.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills related to communicating with the general public
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Regular travel to work in multiple team locations.
- Regularly works non-routine hours (evenings and weekends).
Competitive Compensation
- $30.67 – $35.89 per hour – as per the 2025 non-union pay grid
