Development Supervisor

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada’s largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Development Supervisor to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Development Supervisor is responsible for the drilling and blasting operations. They will also be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the fuel and lube truck, stationary fuel island, pit dewatering, and any other secondary support equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate company safety values and protocols through positive leadership.
- Ensure crew compliance with legislation and operating standards.
- Collaborate with other supervisors, trainers, and department leaders to develop operating procedures and safe work instructions.
- Conduct and document daily safety audits and production reporting.
- Perform and document inspections of all work areas.
- Conduct weekly compliance audits of operating procedures and safe work instructions.
- Investigate all near misses, incidents, and equipment damage as a top priority.
- Participate in daily planning, assess plans, and dispatch equipment and personnel appropriately to achieve production targets.
- Manipulate schedules to ensure both mine and maintenance plans are followed.
- Coordinate and prioritize equipment repairs with the maintenance team.
- Manage scheduling and training of the workforce to minimize delays and maximize equipment availability.
- Monitor equipment utilization against targets and adjust as required.
- Prepare drill patterns in accordance with site policies and procedures.
- Ensure the quality of drilled patterns (collar location, drilled depth, angle, and diameter).
- Review the designed blast timings.
- Monitor consumables and actively participate in continuous improvement programs.
- Oversee the operation of secondary equipment, such as pumps, light towers, etc.
- Read and maintain drill production targets.
Required Experience and Skill Set
- 10+ years of experience in open pit mining.
- 1+ year as a blaster’s helper.
- 3+ years of drilling with down-the-hole tooling (DTH).
- 2+ years of supervising experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Ontario legislation.
