The Associate Director is responsible for the management and delivery of Capital Development initiatives to satisfy institutional priorities and to provide leadership and technical advisory services within the Campus Planning, Design and Development department and other service departments on an as needed basis including legal and procurement matters.

This position serves as one of the primary University representatives when dealing with external agencies and various Authorities Having Jurisdiction including the City of Guelph, Technical Standards and Safety Authority and the Electrical Safety Authority. Extensive negotiation with these bodies as well as external contractors and consultants is routinely required.

Requirements

An undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field, and 9 years of directly related experience. An OAA, P.Eng., or CET certification would be considered an asset to this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Additional requirements include the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and orally. The Associate Director must have professional and interpersonal skills and experience to support and assume the responsibilities of the Director, other discipline Managers and departmental Project Managers as may be required in their absence. Excellent computer skills related to project management and design are required, including the usage of Microsoft Suite applications, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and construction project management software. The incumbent must be intimately familiar with the construction industry, its practices, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes, construction safety, contract law, Construction Act legislation, and University of Guelph standards is a must. The Associate Director has over-arching responsibility for departmentally executed projects with respect to contract accordance, quality assurance, budget control, schedule control, code compliance, safe and non-disruptive implementation.
