The Men's Family Violence Counselling Program at NorWest Co-op Community Health Centre is rooted in the values and ethics of social work, aiming to empower individuals impacted by family violence. This role blends direct client support with strategic contributions to service development and system coordination, fostering resilience, safety, and recovery through a trauma-informed and client-centered approach.

The Men's Family Violence Counsellor will work closely with the Support Worker to provide holistic, client-centered care. Together, they will support clients in navigating complex systems, achieving SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, and fostering empowerment and self-determination. The Counsellor will focus on therapeutic interventions and case management while collaborating with the Support Worker to ensure clients receive practical, hands-on support tailored to their needs.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) required.
2. Active registration with an appropriate regulatory body.
3. Minimum 2 years' experience in case management and supportive counselling, particularly with individuals impacted by family violence.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of family violence and trauma-informed practices.
5. Proven experience in facilitating groups and working with culturally diverse populations.
6. Strong competency in risk assessment, clinical judgement, and collaborative planning.
7. Proficiency in evidence-based approaches, including DBT, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.
8. Commitment to cultural humility and sensitivity to diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
10. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and systems.
11. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
12. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide individual case management to address complex client needs, collaboratively setting SMART goals in partnership with the client and Support Worker.
2. Facilitate trauma-informed group sessions such as Caring Dads, co-led with the Support Worker, to promote shared learning, peer support, and empowerment.
3. Develop and implement individualized safety plans, working alongside the Support Worker to ensure follow-through and practical implementation.
4. Offer therapeutic interventions using evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.

Collaborative Work with Support Worker:

1. Coordinate with the Support Worker to ensure clients receive comprehensive care, integrating therapeutic and practical support.
2. Guide and support the Support Worker in aligning their tasks with the broader case management goals, ensuring consistency in client care.
3. Co-facilitate group sessions, leveraging the complementary strengths of the Counsellor and Support Worker to foster client engagement and trust.
4. Provide case consultations to the Support Worker, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to address client challenges effectively.

Service Coordination:

1. Conduct comprehensive assessments and share findings with the Support Worker to inform collaborative care planning.
2. Work with the Support Worker to ensure clients can access services seamlessly, including accompanying clients to appointments when necessary.
3. Collaboratively reassess client progress with the Support Worker, ensuring care plans remain relevant and aligned with the client's evolving needs.

Data Management & Analysis:

1. Partner with the Support Worker to collect, report, and analyze client data, ensuring ethical and accurate documentation.
2. Use insights from data to refine service strategies and address systemic barriers.
3. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including the Support Worker, to ensure clients receive comprehensive and coordinated care.
4. Provide guidance and consultation to the Support Worker on addressing systemic barriers and advocating for client needs.

Community Engagement:

1. Act as a liaison between community partners and the Support Worker to ensure seamless service navigation.
2. Advocate for systemic changes to reduce barriers faced by individuals impacted by family violence, in collaboration with the Support Worker.
