Youth Educator TempPT, Before/After School Program at Jean Steckle
Part Time Temporary — 2 positions open
Start Date: Nov 17, 2025 (6‑month contract based on program needs)
Pay Rate: $29.42 per hour (current funding) + 2% in lieu of benefits
Hours/Shift: Monday to Friday, Mornings 7:00–8:30 am (1.5 hrs) + Afternoons 2:45–5:15 pm (2.5 hrs)
Role Overview
Work within a team that supports children’s physical, mental, and social development. Assist in creating learning opportunities that align with children’s interests and foster cooperative social behaviours through games and group projects, supporting developmentally appropriate relationships among children and adults.
Responsibilities
- Observe and support children in a safe and engaging environment.
- Plan and facilitate activities that promote physical movement, language growth, and social interaction.
- Collaborate with staff, parents, and the community to implement individualized learning plans.
- Document observations and report on each child’s progress.
- Adhere to all YWCA policies and health‑and‑safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children who have complex needs.
- Experience working with toddler‑age children (asset).
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Familiarity with the Child Care and Early Years Act and the use of environmental assessment tools.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, parents, children, and the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Asset: Registered Early Childhood Educator or equivalent, or a 2‑year diploma in a field relevant to working with children. Consideration will be given to ECE students currently enrolled in the program and individuals with significant experience working with children.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check document.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level‑C certification.
- Vaccine verification (COVID‑19). Employees must confirm vaccination or a valid exemption and agree to comply with any future vaccine policy requirements as an ongoing condition of employment at the YW Kitchener‑Waterloo.
