ROLE PURPOSE
This position will provide casework and support to residents of Connective’s programs to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans.
STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
Unionized; this position requires union membership. This position is open to applicants of all genders.
HOURS
- Shift Hours:
- Morning: 08:00 - 16:00
- Evening: 16:00 - 00:00
- Overnight: 00:00 - 08:00
- Casual employees must be available for atleast 21 shifts per month, of which sevenare overnight shifts.
- If you are workingfull-time, or if you are a full-time student,we ask you for15 shifts of availability per month of which five are overnight shifts(this is subject to employer or enrollment proof).

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager or theirdesignate
- Participates as a member of the Connective services team to ensure quality and continuity of services to clients
- Liaises with staff and volunteers of community and government agencies asrequired
- Liaises with Connective staff asnecessary
- Accepts clinical direction from the care team
- Participates as a member of the Connective staff team
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Participates in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi independently. Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
- Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
- Works directly with additional staff (i.e., Social Workers and Outreach Workers), community service and support providers, government and non-government organizations, and First Nations service providers to inform the development and implementation of individual support plans consistent with harm reduction and Connective’s philosophies and practices.
- Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, andpet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocationalactivities.
- Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
- Administers medication to residents in accordance with establishedpolicy.
- Ensures health and safety standards are maintained
- Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing theproperty.
- Completes regular and routine walk-through checks of the property and immediately surrounding area.
- Reviews and evaluates residents’ progress and adjusts programs as required. Provides feedback and support to residents and/or their families.
- Accompanies and/or transports clients to activities such as appointments,shopping, or leisure activities.
- Maintains/provides either written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress in accordance with policy and standards. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, andeducational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
- Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation ofthe facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services.
- Provides input into meal scheduling and preparation, including foodinventory.
- As assigned, organizes, executes, and oversees the preparation of meals and involves the residents in this process.
- Participates in team meetings as instructed by the ProgramManager.
- Other duties as subsequentlynegotiated.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the care team
- Adheres to Connective’s policies and procedures
- Is available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings/weekends, as determined by program/client needs andschedules
- Is a member of CUPE local 1936-11
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Graduated with a Diploma in a related human/social service field and one-year of related experience
- Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, experiencing homelessness, interaction with social agencies and experiencing mental healthchallenges
- Experience working with First Nation communities
- A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations
- An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities
- Demonstrated an ability to deal with potential violence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills inEnglish
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
- Willing to complete Food Safe Certificate (Level 1)
COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.76 per hour.
Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
