Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and preventative tasks to ensure that DCNHS properties remain in excellent condition. This role plays a vital part in supporting the comfort, safety, and well-being of our tenants while upholding the Society's values and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on residential units, buildings, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting work.
  • Conduct regular inspections of housing units and common areas to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
  • Complete work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with unit turnovers, including cleaning, repairs, and preparing suites for new tenants.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, materials used, and time spent on tasks by filling out the maintenance log on the shared drive.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and supplies are safely used and properly stored.
  • Support snow removal, lawn care, and seasonal upkeep of exterior grounds for Driver House and the triplexes.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance calls and tenant concerns promptly and respectfully.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and other team members to plan and prioritize maintenance schedules.
  • Follow all workplace safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Promote a positive image of Dawson Creek Native Housing Society in all tenant and community interactions.
  • Transport Students to the college and work sites
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair techniques.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a respectful approach toward tenants and coworkers.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector) is required.

Work Environment

  • Primarily on-site work at DCNHS properties and housing units.
  • May include occasional after-hours or weekend work for emergency repairs.

Compensation

  • $26 per hour
