This is a Designated Competition open to members who identify from the Indigenous community, with a strong preference to those who self-identify as Mi'Kmaw.
The salary scale for Professional Support 5 is based on steps that range from $77,032.43 - $102,412.68. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $89,704.12 annually.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- You possess a Bachelor's degree in Mi'kmaq/Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
- You have lived knowledge and experience of Mi'kmaq/Indigenous worldviews, histories, and current realities, with a strong commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- You have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with Mi'kmaq/Indigenous communities, focusing on education or curriculum development.
- A Master's degree or equivalent experience in culturally responsive teaching, Mi'kmaq/Indigenous education, or curriculum development is an asset.
- You possess a certification or formal training in Mi'kmaq/Indigenous education methodologies or related professional development.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite; E-mail proficiency in PeopleSoft, Share Point, and Brightspace would be considered an asset.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
- Proven expertise in Mi'kmaq/Indigenous and culturally responsive curriculum development, teaching, and knowledge integration.
- Experience managing collaborative projects involving diverse stakeholders, including community members, educators, and organizational leaders.
- Experience implementing a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented approach to creating transformative educational experiences.

Responsibilities
What you will be doing…
- The Curriculum Consultant - Mi'kmaw/Indigenous is a vital role focused on designing, developing, and enhancing culturally responsive and inclusive curricula grounded in Mi'kmaq/Indigenous worldviews, histories, and learning methodologies. Working closely with academic leaders, faculty, subject matter experts, Mi'kmaq/Indigenous communities, and external stakeholders, the consultant ensures that curriculum initiatives reflect Mi'kmaq/Indigenous perspectives, centering culturally responsive approaches, equity, accessibility, and academic quality.
- The consultant collaborates closely with Mi'kmaq/Indigenous communities, Academic Schools, the Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion team, internal partners, and external stakeholders to create transformative learning experiences that prioritize equity, accessibility, and cultural relevance.
- This role manages related curriculum development projects and provides expert guidance on culturally responsive curriculum development.
- The consultant works to ensure alignment with guiding frameworks such as the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the CICAN Indigenous Education Protocol, community needs, and industry standards/regulatory requirements.
- This role plays a critical part in supporting Indigenous partnerships, fostering innovation, cultural responsiveness, and academic quality across Academic programs.
- Travel between campuses, as required.
Additional Information
As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status, all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
