Within the Ministry, the Court and Justice Services (CJS) Division delivers court operations, administration, and resolution services to Albertans, engaging with diverse stakeholders to provide effective and timely resolution of legal matters.

The Business and Resolution Services Branch plays a strategic role by leading business planning, reporting, and operational support for the Division. By fostering collaboration and innovation, Business and Resolution Services ensures that Alberta’s justice system remains responsive, efficient, and future-focused.

Role Responsibilities

Do you thrive on analyzing complex information and supporting effective and efficient processes for internal stakeholders? As a Business Planning Analyst, you will play a central role in aligning divisional initiatives with ministry objectives. This position requires critical thinking, adaptability, and a solutions-focused approach to overcome challenges in planning and reporting. Working closely with leadership and internal stakeholders across the division and Ministry, you will ensure that strategic priorities are met, and continuous improvement is achieved.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and deliver planning and reporting activities, including business plans, annual reports, and performance agreements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with ministry priorities.
- Conduct research and environmental scanning to analyze trends and provide evidence-based insights for strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, program experts, and cross-ministry partners to strengthen information sharing and drive continuous improvement.
- Apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to anticipate challenges and develop practical solutions under tight timelines.
- Manage Access to Information (ATI) requests and maintain organized records to meet compliance standards.

The ideal candidate will bring:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret information, anticipate operational challenges, and recommend solutions.
- Knowledge of planning and reporting standards, research methodologies, and analysis techniques.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proficiency in document management database (e.g. ARTS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- A collaborative, self-directed approach with adaptability to changing needs and priorities.
- Political acumen and relationship-building skills to navigate sensitive topics effectively.

Qualifications

Required: University graduation in a related field, plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Related education can be in fields that provide a strong foundation in research, analysis, and organizational planning. Preferred areas include Public Administration, Political Science, Business, Economics, Law, Public Policy, and Social Sciences. Other acceptable disciplines may include Management or similar programs that emphasize strategic thinking and problem-solving.

Related experience can include roles where you have contributed to planning, reporting, research, and strategic analysis within complex organizations. Examples of relevant positions include Project Coordinator, Program Analyst, Planning Analyst, Strategic Planning Advisor, Business Coordinator, Business Administrator, etc. Experience should involve coordinating business or operational planning processes, preparing reports and briefing materials for senior leadership, conducting environmental scans or data analysis, and managing multiple projects, often under tight timelines.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience;
- or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets and preferences will be considered as follows:

- Government and Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to work within public sector or large, complex organizations, collaborating effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams on sensitive and strategic initiatives, including planning and reporting processes aligned with organizational priorities.
- Justice System Knowledge: Experience in court administration, alternative dispute resolution, and justice services, ensuring compliance with legislative and procedural standards.
- Project Management Knowledge: Proven track record of coordinating or assisting with projects and their administration including file management, with a systematic approach to guiding planning and reporting deliverables, often under tight timelines.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in a database for document approvals (e.g., ARTS), collaboration/reporting tools (SharePoint, OneDrive) and data visualization software, with adaptability to other relevant technologies.
- Advanced Analytical Skills: Skilled in conducting environmental scans, scenario planning, and strategic analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for evidence-based decision-making.
- Access to Information (ATI) and Records Management: Experience handling ATI requests and organizing records to meet compliance and legislative standards, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Hours of Work: One permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
