Emergency Communication Technicians fill a dynamic role within a highly specialized remote communications and intelligence hub as the primary point of coordination for incident processing, resource mobilization, communications, and documentation during emergency and non-emergency calls throughout the front country and backcountry areas of over 25,000 sq km land base of the Kananaskis Region.

We are looking to fill two summer seasonal positions to work in our Kananaskis Emergency Services office. Duties include simultaneous monitoring of multiple phone lines and radio channels as well as operation of a variety of communications equipment including a multi-screen computer terminal and various software, printer, mapping software, advanced telephone system, GPS unit, iPad, and voice recorder.

Emergency Communication Technicians manage multiple responses and incidents simultaneously, triaging priority calls based on available resources and immediate threats to life safety. Reporting to the Emergency Services Dispatch Supervisor, this position is responsible for key emergency communications center files and programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma and two years of related administrative experience.

• Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Other Requirements that are mandatory:

• Prior to hire, recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate will be needed.

• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.

• Final candidates will be required to provide a standard 3-year Driver's Abstract prior to commencement.

• Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check.

• Able to work irregular hours, overtime, shifts, evenings and/or weekends, and/or statutory and provincial holidays.

• Able to work independently without direct supervision.

Assets:

• Previous Dispatch experience with Emergency Services including International Academics of Emergency Dispatchers (IAED) Certification or similar.

• Technical abilities in radio communications systems and equipment.

• High level of computer proficiency including typing speed and abilities with Microsoft Office products.

Terms of Employment:

• This is a seasonal wage position from May until mid-September.

• Shifts are 10 hours in length based on a 40-hour work week.
