The Arts in Health Discipline at Baycrest employs a mandate of building, developing and overseeing programs and curriculum that use the arts as a vehicle to enable the individual voice and capture the lived experience of our clients. The position's scope includes affecting organizational culture change through the offering of transformative experiences that highlight the value of integrating the arts within healthcare and across the Baycrest campus through clinical care, education, and the environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Bridge the cross section of arts and health care by providing opportunities for artists to work within the units/programs of the hospital and across the long-term care home, as well as out in the community.
2. Provide training to assist artists with successful integration into clinical programs/health settings.
3. Provide opportunities for the telling of stories through the use of artistic media including journals, oral discourse/storytelling circles, music, theatre, dance, movement, and visual arts.
4. Consult with staff and trainees to assess how arts based initiatives align with their current and future inter-professional learning needs, as well as the care needs of patients, and develop projects to meet those needs.
5. Collaborate with the Creative Arts Studio, Music Therapy, TR, Social Work, Art Project Coordinator, and the Museum to oversee and implement and deliver centre-wide activities.
6. Liaise with colleagues, external vendors, and partner organizations to organize logistics for Arts & Culture events and programs.
7. Create content for cultural events and programs, capturing lived experiences of older adults through arts based initiatives.
8. Assist with the development, dissemination and analysis of cultural needs assessments to ensure arts and culture programs and services are meeting the needs of those we serve.
9. Work collaboratively with internal & external stakeholders to establish frameworks for arts and health programs within the department of Culture & Arts.
10. Present program frameworks to various stakeholders in order to build strategic collaborations and partnerships in capacity building.
11. Coordinate/deliver inter-professional clinical education regarding integration of arts into clinical programs/units.
12. Contribute to expanding Baycrest's involvement in rigorous scientific research regarding the health implications of arts engagement and creativity on older adults.
13. Disseminate research findings to build capacity in broader community health settings serving older adults.
14. Maintain ongoing evaluation of program service delivery by monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness in meeting clients' needs.
15. Participate in development and implementation of formal and informal evaluation measures in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
1. Completion of a Master's degree in a Health Field, Humanities, Social Sciences or related discipline is required.
2. At least 3 years of related experience in a healthcare setting is required.
3. At least 2 years of project coordination experience (initiating, planning, executing, controlling/monitoring, and closing diverse projects).
4. Experience in the development and implementation of arts & cultural programs in a healthcare setting is an asset.
5. Project management training and experience supervising volunteers/students is an asset.
6. Excellent knowledge and experience with research methodologies (including qualitative/quantitative data analysis tools).
7. Ability to address difficult questions that demand creative and perceptive answers and have effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
8. Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of software, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint.
