Restoring the Sacred – Cultural Facilitator

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Cultural Facilitator that will play a vital role in supporting youth through meaningful, hands‑on cultural experiences after school with the Restoring the Sacred program. This position creates welcoming and engaging spaces where youth can connect to culture, community, and identity through teachings, creativity, and land‑based learning. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in their cultural knowledge, comfortable leading activities independently, and passionate about sharing teachings in a good way. You will design and facilitate cultural programming that supports youth wellbeing, belonging, and pride in who they are.
Restoring the Sacred is an after‑school program for high school aged Indigenous youth who are transitioning to Winnipeg so they can remain focused on their education, meet new friends, grow and share new experiences in a positive and safe environment, and provides prevention support against exploitation.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan, create, and facilitate after‑school cultural activities for youth
- Lead cultural programming such as: Drumming and songs, Beading and cultural arts, Ribbon skirt making, Land‑based outings and teachings, Storytelling and knowledge sharing
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space where youth feel respected and supported
- Share cultural teachings in a way that honours protocol, community values, and lived experience
- Build trusting relationships with youth and support positive identity development
- Work independently to plan sessions, gather supplies, and manage activity flow
- Collaborate with program staff to align activities with youth needs and program goals
- Support youth participation with patience, encouragement, and flexibility
Who You Are
- Knowledgeable and confident in your cultural teachings, skills, and practices
- Comfortable leading groups independently and adapting activities as needed
- Experienced working with youth in community‑based or cultural settings
- Grounded, reliable, and able to hold space with care and respect
- Organized and proactive in planning activities and preparing materialsAble to engage youth with different interests, energy levels, and needs
- Committed to creating culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and youth‑centered spaces
What You Bring
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices such as drumming, beading, ribbon skirt making, land‑based teachings, or similar
- Experience facilitating cultural or educational activities with youth
- Confidence sharing teachings in group settings
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and a positive approach to working with youth
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
